Artist Statement
From the very first photograph I took it has always been about capturing the essence of a person or moment in time. For the next page titled "Soft Focus" I started out with 120 medium format negatives that I then scanned into my computer and then edited. I must say that even though these images are digitally edited it does not mean that they are 'photoshoped' images. I edit my photographs just as I would in the dark room. My self imposed 'rule' for using photo editing software is that if it cannot be done in the dark room, then it shouldn't be done to the photograph. This body of work is my latest work a is a complete departure from the way I have shot in the past. I have experimented heavily this past year with the use of soft focus. The images range in location from Amsterdam to Paris and everywhere in-between. I am proud to say that every image shown came off one roll of 120 black and white film. One aspect that can not be overlooked is the fact that I have chosen to title all of this series in French. The reason being that along with the etherial nature of these photographs I felt that esthetically the language of the French accompanied them best. I wanted onlookers to get lost within the photographs; not to look and just try to figure out what the image is, but to make decisions for themselves. Never have I felt more fulfilled within as an artist then with this body of work. For years I have tried to find my voice as an artist and I finally feel as though I have. The other pages of images I am choosing to share are images that I have shot in the past, and are not my current body of work.
